Some Celtic Entertainment

I have been aware of what is termed Celtic music in this part of France for some time. For the most part it is almost always associated with Ireland and very rarely Scotland. However, I decided to make the effort and found myself at La Margelle paying my 5€ and taking my seat alongside Gilbert, Jean Marc and Natalie for an evening of musical entertainment.

La Margelle is Civray's Salle de Spectacle and is an excellent little theatre for such a small town. It never ceases to amaze me what Civray has in the way of community provisions.

Claymore Take The Stage

I must admit I was impressed by the musical offering on this occasion. It was a concert well supported by the local French population.... more so than the English speaking inhabitants.

First up was Claymore playing for the most part traditional Scottish stuff.  They are composed of three musicians; a Scot; Jean Livingstone, an Englishman; David Blake and a Frenchman; Jean-Luc Raffoux. Pretty good they were too.

Then Gavin Livingstone, complete wi kilt and brother of Jean, continued the theme, acoustic and solo.

Then to round things off, The Stony River Band played some Americana. This band is Claymore plus two other musicians - a German drummer and an English guitarist. They rounded off the evening wwith a tribute to Mr Robert Allen Zimmerman himself.

The night was completed with some wine and snacks in the adjoining hall before I headed off up the hill to chez moi. A most thoroughly entertaining evening. Click here for a flavour.
